3 Prayers for a Worried Heart

Prayers

When your heart is full of worry, finding the words to pray can be hard.

It can feel like God is distant, out of reach, or doesn’t hear your pleas.

I may not know what worries are consuming your heart today, but I’m no stranger to anxiety and fear.

I’ve battled anxiety since college, and even as a Bible study leader and missionary, there were still moments where fear consumed me.

In those moments, I’d close my eyes to pray, and the thousands of thoughts racing through my mind would make it difficult to give my fears to the Lord. I didn’t know what to say or how to say it.

It’s always hardest to pray when we need to pray the hardest.

Whether you’re in a hard season, uncertainty lies ahead, or you regularly battle anxiety yourself, here are some words that helped me talk to God when I couldn’t find the words to say.

Feel free to alter these for your circumstances. These prayers are only meant to help focus your thoughts and provide a starting point.

“Lord - when doubt creeps in, and worry consumes me, help me keep my eyes on You. I know you say to be strong and courageous, but I don’t feel strong right now. Let me find that strength in You. Only You can bring me peace. Let me trust that You know what tomorrow brings, and You’re already there, making a way for me. Please help me through this, and calm my anxious heart. Amen.”

“God - I know You are good. I know You have a plan, but I can’t understand what You’re doing right now. Please give me comfort and direction. Replace these worries with Your promises. Lift my eyes and remove this fear from my heart. I’m trying to trust You, but it’s so hard to right now. Help me to choose faith over fear. Amen.”

“You know my heart. You know what worries me and consumes my thoughts. Lord, help me to worry less, pray more, and find freedom from these fears. Calm my weary soul and help me find hope in You. Amen.”

What do you worry about the most?

Whether it’s family, health, work, finances, or the state of the world - I hope these prayers speak to your heart. God offers calm for the weary and hope for the hopeless.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:6-7

He has led me out of the dark trenches of anxiety and fear before, and I know He can do the same for you.
